Golden Joinery -
Upcycle Your Favorite Dishes

Golden joinery / golden repair is a pottery repair method that has been practiced for over 400 years in Japan. Bring your favorite cup, dish and revive it with lacquer and gold.

*
 Two weeks are required between each workshop to allow the lacquer time to dry.

The price varies depending on the group size. Please inquire.

Eligibility

Age: 12+ (Minors must be accompanied by a guardian)

Please Bring

*Hand towel (to dry your hands), your mask, water, 
*2-3 ceramic or porcelain dishes you would like to upcycle. If you don't' have them, we can provide for 1,000/piece.

About the Instructor

Munehiro Kamata

Director of Hase Base rental space in Kamakura where he organizes Kintsugi workshops. Mr. Kamata was trained in Kintsugi in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture which is well-known for lacquerware production

Important Notes

*This is a three-part workshop, with 3 sessions over approximately six weeks. 
(Two weeks time is required between workshops to allow the lacquer to dry.
*Lacquer may cause allergic reactions to some people.

Hase Base
A rental space inside a renovated 50+year-old Japanese folk house. About 5 min. walk from Enoden Hase station, Kamakura. 7 min. walk from the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
